For me, applied anthropology is not a separate field but the application of a certain framework of analysis to the institutions and processes that shape our lives — international affairs, law, and corporations, for example. What I try to do in the Applied Anthropology programme is to train people to dissect the institutions within which they work, and the decision making processes they participate in, using the critical logic of anthropology. This is not an academic exercise but an attempt to build safeguards into systems in which the idea of “culture” is often hijacked, leading to flawed and even harmful interventions.

Hello,
I’m a french student in tourism. I’m writting a thesis about chinese pratice in domestic tourism. Thanks for your book “Scenic Spots: chinese tourism, the state, and cultural, authority”. It’s really interesting.
There is such few book about tourism in China that I can use for my research.
I live in Paris, and study at the University of Angers, ESTHUA, in Master 2, chinese tourism.

Itt a szigeten most nagyon megugrott hirtelen Kínából a bevándorlók száma, főleg ezért szeretnének sokan mandarint tanulni. A PNP Programról nem tudom hallottál-e, a helyi (provincial) kormányon keresztül volt a program, a kínai üzletemberek bizonyos összegért vehettek helyi cégekben részesedést, és ezúton bevándorolhattak.
Csak érdekességképp mondom.
