Welcoming Jaap Timmer

11 February, 2010

Our newest recruit to Culture Matters is also one of the new recruits to the Department of Anthropology at Macquarie.  Jaap Timmer, who began at Macquarie in January, will be contributing posts on his areas of interest, which include a geographical focus on Indonesia and Melanesia, and research interests in the areas of governance, development, and religion.  Jaap is also the new director of the Master of Applied Anthropology, and is therefore a perfect person to be contributing to the blog.

Jaap has told me that he would like to post about his interests in law and development work, and in first of all about “the fascinating work of Brian Tamanaha” as he describes it.  I’m not at all familiar with Tamanaha’s writing so I’m very much looking forward to seeing what Jaap has to say about him, and about his other interests too.

So, without any further ado, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to Jaap Timmer!
