I always think indigenous youth in
Australia should be encouraged to study social anthropology so that they can engage in their own culture and also make a living out of it. I don’t know if there are any indigenous anthropologists in Australia, but when I saw some of the feature films and documentaries made by indigenous people at the 2007 Indigenous Film Festival in Sydney, I got the impression that these indigenous filmmakers were like amateur anthropologists and ethnographers who turned their observations on their own indigenous culture as well as the wider Australian culture into feature films and documentaries with an indigenous perspective. All the films I saw were very self-enriching about the Australian indigenous people and indigenous issues, and I am looking forward to the next indigenous film festival. http://www.sydneyoperahouse.com/messagesticks
